Somewhere far away in a Las Vegas jail cell lies a pissed off OJ Simpson. OJ has plenty to be pissed about these days in addition to his 33 year sentence in a Nevada prison for kidnapping and robbery charges. The daughter, Arnelle Simpson, he left in charge of his estate and monthly $25,000 NFL pension has let his Miami home go into foreclosure.
No payments have been made on the house in the past two years. Oj’s $25,000 monthly pension is more than enough to pay for the modest four-bedroom home, which costs $3,133 a month. Apparently, Arnelle has grander plans for the money, according to the Daily Mail:
In an angry phone call from his Nevada prison, [OJ] accused her of blowing his money on alcohol, shopping and living a lavish lifestyle.
The source said: ‘O.J. fought with Arnelle all the time about her drinking, and he tried for years to get her married to get her out of his house.
‘Arnelle is a shopaholic. Shopping was often the only thing that got her out of the house. She loved her trips to Saks and Victoria’s Secret and paid for them with her father’s money.
‘She’d also bring all of her friends to the house or go to expensive restaurants and buy everyone dinner and drinks…
His daughter is allegedly planning on buying a condo in Los Angeles with his money.
The source told the Enquirer: ‘Her actions are really revenge against a father she felt abandoned his children long ago for a life of bad behavior and crazy antics with questionable friends and loose women.’
OJ won’t be up for parole until 2017. Unless he’s released, the reality remains that he’s powerless…and homeless. He left his estate in the hands of his daughter, as it was probably the most responsible option he had. Despite the issues that Arnelle may or may not have, he went forward with the decision anyway. Now he’ll forever have to live with the consequences.
These years in prison should serve as a reflective period for OJ. It’s not money alone that completes our lives. Instead of living the high life and neglecting close family and friends in his earlier days, he should have been a staple in the lives of those that mattered. The fact that OJ could only rely on his possibly alcoholic daughter for his estate speaks volumes. Furthermore, OJ can only look in the mirror for his current woes. After dealing with the judicial system in 1994, he should have been on the straight and narrow. If he had been, none of this would be an issue, and no one would have to look after his estate.
Whether Arnelle will receive OJ’s pension for another five or twenty-nine years, we certainly hope she has more to show for it than vodka, shopping bags, and happy friends. If not, she needs to get a plan together for herself, as the money isn’t guaranteed forever. Instead of doubling down on so many liabilities, she needs to seriously invest her money in assets. Ownership is power. If she is vindictively spending away her father’s money, she must realize that she is equally screwing herself over in this dubious plan. Instead of sticking it to her father, she should seriously focus on bettering herself and moving forward in life.

In all fairness, all 4 of his kids have issues-not just Arnelle. His oldest son was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and his 2 children from his second marriage hate his guts and obviously have anger issues as well.
However, I do concede your point as all of what OJ has gone through has been the result of bad decisions he made and not taking responsibility for his own actions.
As I read this post I thought how ten payments of $25k would annihilate my student loan and mortgage debt. I thought of how it would totally change my life and that of my children forever…As I read these posts, I stretch to understand how and/or why anyone would want to “waste” money. It is a tool that can do so much good and help so many people. As such, it can (and often does) destroy lives. I feel an overwhelming sadness for Arnelle. My sister lost her mother to a murder and our father was incarcerated for 20 years where he eventually passed. Arnelle’s may be attempting to fill a void and $25k in anyone’s hands can fill any void temporarily. Does OJ have a right to be angry? Yes. Yet, his decisions put him in a position where he is powerless and really has no say. So although his anger may be merited (he earned the monies), his actions put his daughter into a position of responsibility she may not have been prepared for.
Well put, Montina. We could not have said it better! In reality, it’s enough money for most people to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. It goes to show that money in a person’s hands with a broken psyche will do absolutely nothing.
Thanks for the comment! We can totally believe that all of his children has issues. As we said in the article, it speaks volumes that he had to leave his money in the hands of his potentially alcoholic daughter because there was likely no other responsible party to leave it to, or he’s burned that many people in life. We hope OJ is learning his lesson and that Arnelle gets the wake-up call that she desperately needs. At this point, this is about more than a foreclosure.
Okay, does anyone know if she has a fiduciary duty of some sort as his agent that is actionable in court. Also, what happens to her alleged condo when he eventually leaves prison or heaven forbid if he dies some time before 2017.
I am going to assume that OJ’s daughter lacks financial discipline. Based on that assumption it is only a matter of time before she loses whatever she gained. She probably is not creating investments with the money.
Also, I really don’t feel sorry for OJ because if he knew she had bad money habits OJ should have been monitering his estate. He may lose out on some money in the interim while he is in jail but he will make $600,000 gross income the first year out of jail. I mean realistically if he wanted to OJ could stop his daughter from recieving his pension. I think he could get a lawyer or create a power of attorney to designate someone else to handle his legal affairs. Heck he could have made the mortgatge payments automatically from a checking or savings account. I think the man was cheap and didn’t want to pay for any advice from a financial professional that could have saved him millions. It’s a sad story but I won’t shed a tear.
Sorry for the long post. Just some thoughts.
No matter what he did, this gives his daugther no right to squander money!
Thanks for your comment, Shelby. We’re not sure of the legal implications between OJ’s daughter and the financial issues. The situation has no immediate impact for OJ whatsoever, as he’s holed up in prison for at least five more years. As you noted, it would be in his best interest to correct his own actions and then reach out to help his daughter with hers.
Thanks for the input, Smith. We’ve read from many people who also have that viewpoint.
Whatever bad behavior OJ Simpson engaged in certainly does not supersede that conducted by lawyers, prosecutors, and police who all knew that he was entering a limo at 11PM to LAX at the same time his wife Nicole was alive talking on the phone to her mother and concealed this info from the jury then later asked for and received (DDA Wm Hodgman) a secret court order to remove all records from the Simpson case file in the LA Superior Court Exhibit Dept. It is all exposed in the book “Pursuit of Exhibit 35 in the OJ Simpson Murder Trial” and documentary “Serpents Rising: The OJ Simpson Conspiracy” both at amazon.
